Our philosophy is to promote an active lifestyle through effective movement strategies and assists the body heal itself with the proper intervention. Education is a key component throughout each phase of the rehabilitation process, to help you understand your injury and how to prevent future injuries. We take a genuine interest in each patient and are committed to providing the highest level of service.

Our location is outfitted with a variety of fitness equipment and the space necessary to promote functional retraining following an injury. This environment encourages an increased level of activity during therapy to help you reach your goals.

Physical therapy involves the diagnosis of a movement-related disorder through an examination followed by treatment directed towards the restoration of optimum physical function. We provide treatment for a variety of musculoskeletal injuries, conditions, and disorders, including, but not limited to:
  • Acute and Chronic Spinal Pain (back and neck pain)
  • Postural Dysfunction
  • Sports and Performance Injuries
  • Overuse-related Injuries
  • Post-surgical Rehabilitation
  • Muscles Strains and Sprains
  • Adjunct Therapy for other Medical Conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis and Osteoporosis
Every appointment is scheduled one-on-one with a physical therapist for up to one hour. This unique treatment model allows the physical therapist to focus on the patient during both the manual and exercise component of the session. Treating an injury involves determining the cause of the problem, not just treating the symptoms. For example, knee pain during running may be due to a problem at the hip, muscular imbalances in the lower limb or improper loading through the foot.

We use a variety of treatments and techniques to treat injuries:
Manual Therapy
Treatments aimed at restoring pain-free range of motion, including soft tissue massage, manual traction, muscle energy techniques, and joint mobilization. Treatments are based on the identification of abnormal tissue and restricted joints. The effects of treatment include reduction of pain and joint stiffness, improvement of tissue mobility and a decrease in muscle spasms.
Modalities
  • Ultrasound: Pulsed or continuous sound waves emitted at varying frequency that are absorbed by the body to control pain, increase blood flow, and increase soft tissue mobility.
  • E-stim: Electric currents used to control pain or activate muscle groups.
  • Class I Laser: This laser emits infrared radiation with a wavelength of 904 nm with short pulses.  Measurements show the depth of penetration is 3-5 cm depending on the area being treated.  This laser can treat tendonitis, arthritis and myofascial pain and lymphedema  (available at the Washington DC facility).
  • Class IV Laser: This is a high powered therapeutic laser with the ability to “bio-stimulate” tissue growth and repair.  It is useful with treatment for pain, inflammation and scar tissue formation (available at the New York facility).

Pilates
Pilates is a method of exercises using equipment such as the reformer and the trapeze table to condition the body. It trains to increase strength and flexibility and improve balance, posture and coordination. Pilates is suitable for many people regardless of age or physical condition (equipment available at the Washington DC facility).
Exercise Progression
Clinical and home-based exercises based on dynamic movements and functional activities to strengthen muscles and improve balance and coordination.
Patient Education:
Explanation of your injury, feedback during exercises and activities, postural education, and recommendations to reduce risk and prevent re-injury provided throughout the treatment sessions.
